Betrayed

Just over a week ago I wrote about spring in the air, crocuses and primulas blooming, and the promise that the winter blahs (full blown SAD in my case) would soon be gone. I did not just post those pics to annoy my Mom (although it is tradition, for 20 years or so I have been teasing her yearly with letters, then e-mail, and then blog posts about Vancouver's February flowers). But I had truly felt a lifting of spirit. A hint of a promise that I will soon go outside and feel lovely sunshine on my face, and warm soil in my garden.

But now I have been sucker punched. Mother nature is one sadistic bitch. Look at these photos I took today:

Ouch. I'm so sorry. Soon, I hope.

Le monde en envers... at the end of last week it rained and the temperature went up to 7-8 degrees... and you guys are getting snow...what a winter.

Citizen, So much for global warming. Note to mother nature: THIS IS PART OF THE GLOBE, bitch.

BB, The world certainly is in reverse. But I hope your weather does not harm the maple sugar season.

Disgusting, and betrayed indeed. Fortunately we missed the snow here, but it is so intercoursing cold I can hardly stand it. I joked the other day that it felt like February. Today it feels like early January on a bad year. I'll give you a warm hug if you give me one back.

Yeah, I know the feeling. We got rain instead of snow. And it was windy. The cover on my Webber barbecue was blown off and it was well anchored. Come on Spring, hurry up!

Ian, How did the snow miss you I wonder? Nanaimo got clobbered with it. But we really shouldn't moan about the cold. It was -47 in Edmonton today.

Dumdad, Cheeky trick that, blowing the cover off a barbeque when it is too nasty out to use. Mother nature is not just sadistic, she has a wicked sense of humour. Bitch.

We received a similar punch today--yet I was very surprised, as I shoveled and watched the kids throw snowballs, that I had a fondness for this last attempt of winter. It felt kind of sweet, like winter couldn't do its worst, but it was saying adieu.

Okay, that didn't help at all, did it?

Jocelyn, I love winter that I can travel to, enjoy, then leave again. Which is why I love living here, winter is in the mountains a 45 minute drive away. But it does not belong down here at sea level in March. NO WAY.

I'm sorry that winter punched back again. We had spring then snow on March 2 and by the weekend warm again. We're staying above freezing now and blooming again but that won't necessarily last either. I hope you will get warmer weather again soon.

Carver, we broke a 60 year record for the coldest March 10. Damn!

It warmed up here last week, and poured rain, so much so that there were giant puddles everywhere - then got cold and the puddles froze and it sleeted and hailed. I'll take nice, fluffy snow over chunks of rock-hard ice falling from the sky any day.

I'd rather take nice, warm weather though...

Coffeedrinker, I think we could all use a week or two under a palm tree, with afternoons spent reading a delicious book, a drink with an umbrella in it at hand.

It doesn't rain here in Sydney. You are very lucky!
