Promise of light

This is a long, worrisome winter. But even in these grey January days, there are hopeful signs of light to come. Of renewed life, and the promise of warm sunshine on my shoulder. I don't have to look any further than my garden.

The sun will blaze again, and banish the darkest shadows.

Won't it?

So, how come your bulbs are up and mine aren't yet, hmm? I know, I've been checking.
Anyway, dear friend, the balmy days of spring will have to come. I'm counting on it. And then it will be summer, and that's even better.

Yes. It will.

Ian, I have to confess, the bluebells are up against the house, not too far from the dryer vent. That explains why they are so far out. But not the daffodils or the azalea buds.

Alda, You of the dark winters probably know more than I do the longing for light and warmth.

I always love to see the signs of new life promised, during the winter. My camelias are budding out and I see signs of the hyacinth just under the mulch. Looks like we have some similar signs of new life to come. Good post.

You have stuff growing? At this time of year? In Canada?

I'm sorry, but I'm feeling like I'm obliged to hate you.

Once we get into January, I feel like Spring is just around the corner. Sadly not quite.
On the Granville Island walk, there is some kind of sticky pink tree flowering, but I don't know what it is. More like a big bush really. I kind find my big plant dictionary arranged by the year at the moment.

Sigh.

Yes. Yes it will. Mine, too, just about 3 months later than yours. Therefore, I beg you to post lots of pictures of small green things poking up.

Good lord, we're still under a couple of feet of snow.

That last photo is stunning.

The light will come, that's for sure. Even if you don't want it to, it never fails.

Still keeping you and your family in my thoughts.

Of course, the sun will blaze again ... not that it ever "blazes" here ... just the brightness ... thats all we need ...

Til then, keep singing.

Carver, While I know spring is still far away, at least there is some comfort in the signs that it will arrive.

Jazz and Big Brither, I would take some time in bright sunshine with two feet of glistening snow any time. We only get liquid sunshine here at this time of year.

JMB, I have not seen any trees blooming yet, even the earliest plum hybrids. Maybe I should go to Granville Island.

Diana, I can't post too many pictures of things growing in January and blooming in February, it makes my Mom's blood boil!

Echomouse, Thank you for your kindness. My Dad told me a few days ago how touched he was by the expressions of support and promise of prayers here when I wrote about his illness.

Riseoutofme, I took your advice literally today, and took a long walk with the dogs after work, singing along out loud to the MP3 player. I got a few strange looks, since the MP# ear buds were hidden under my hood.

Your far ahead of us in the spring department. Here in massachusetts we're snowed under and any little plant that dares stick its tongue out will regret it. Beautiful photos.

Mmmm, warmth, sun and flowers.

Over here in Victoria my snowdrops are blooming! Hurray!

I zipped over here from Jazz's blog, it's nice to see a fellow West Coaster with a great blog!
